Neal Vitale Reviews: Flipped

5 stars out of 5

Rob Reiner (This Is Spinal Tap, The Bucket List) interrupts his political activism long enough to deliver a wonderful tale of first love. This is a charming, engaging film, weaving together innocence, discovery, and accidental wisdom in a story that is both guileless and profound. The cast matches the quiet warmth of the storyline, led by two excellent young actors (Madeline Carroll [Swing vote] and Australian Callan McAuliffe) joined by veterans Aidan Quinn, Anthony Edwards, Rebecca DeMornay, John Mahoney, and Penelope Ann Miller. Flipped is reminiscent of Reiner's Stand By Me with its sensitive revisiting of childhood and recreation of a lost era, in this case, the early 1960s, replete with perfectly chosen period songs. A completely delightful film.
