Twenty Years From Now
May 23, 2021
My Daily Calm app led me to H. Jackson “Life’s Little Instruction Book” Brown, who attributes this quote to his mother (NOT Mark Twain, as widely attributed):
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So, throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
My mother also had a 20-year quote which she repeated to my father when he took off on a Sunday afternoon to run “specials” for the dairy instead of spending time with his family. “Twenty years from now, we’ll be here and the damn dairy won’t.”
As it turns out, she was right; the dairy did go out of business about 20 years later.
