The past IS a cancelled check.
But sometimes, a cancelled check, when held tenderly,
recalls a fleeting feeling you had,
or a priceless possession you have,
be it a person, place or thing.
I’m glad:
You stayed, I stayed.
I now cherish every second for what it is:
A miracle.
I get a thrill
Every time I touch you.
I’m sad:
10,000 touches
Without a conscious thrill.
10,000 nights on the far end of the couch
When I could have been at your side.
Regrets? No.
Do-over? No.
This moment is what it is
Cause of what went before it.
